Sweden Drinks

While in Sweden you are going to find most of the popular drinks that occur in other countries. First of all when speaking about Sweden drinks you will find that Kaffe or coffee is extremely popular. The Kaffe is going to resemble many of the lattes and cappuccinos that are found in other European countries as well as regular black coffee. You will also find that tea with milk or no milk is also something of popularity. Though tea, is not as popular as the UK it is still offered in almost any restaurant you are going to visit. If you are looking for alcohol in Sweden you are going to find that it is controlled by the State monolpy Systembolaget, which makes the alcohol in Sweden extremely expensive. You will find that there are specific laws for when you can drink in Sweden at the restaurants. In fact no restaurant will serve an alcoholic beverage until it is noon, and on Sundays it must be one o'clock before alcohol can be served.

Sweden's most popular alcohol is the Schnapps or aquavit. It is served by itself in an icy cold class. You will find that with the food offered in the country especially a Smorgasbord you will be offered Schnapps to enjoy during your meal or after your meal. Another popular item in Sweden for drinking is the Swedish beer. Swedish beer is considered a pilsner and is a very light alcoholic beverage. The Lattol is a light Swedish beer and the Folkol is a stronger beer offering a darker flavor to the enjoyment.

Vodka is a hard liquor offered in the country. You will find the vodka or brannvin is made from corn, potatoes, and flavored with different spices. Vodka is served in a schnapps class offering an ice cold drink. You will find that most often in Sweden the drinks are not going to be mixed. Most Swedes prefer the straight liquor to any mixed drink. You will find that there are some restaurants that will offer mixed drinks for the tourists. Another thing to keep in mind is that there are strict rules regarding alcohol consumption in Sweden and they are always adhered to.

The drawback to Sweden drinks is going to be the price. You will find that all alcohol is going to be extremely expensive, even if it is a common beverage to the country. If you are looking for a little something without alcohol you have Swedish soft drinks and sparkling water that is produced in their factories. Spendrups is one of the companies that offer lemonade and waters in the restaurants and other venues in Sweden. You will find however, that soft drinks made in Sweden are a little less important to the consumers. In other words Coke and other well known products are often served, which means the soft drink industry is suffering.



Sweden History Tip #1

Always remember to carry a map of Sweden when you visit, mark on it the whereabouts of your hotel and the full address and keep it with you when you travel. Mark down landmarks near the hotel if you plan to walk so that you can easily spot the direction of your residency for the time of your stay.

If you plan to travel to Northern Sweden to experience the Northern Lights and the Ice Hotel, pack accordingly and remember warm clothing, especially in winter months. Thermal underwear is highly recommended on top of hats, scarves and a couple of pairs of gloves – there's nothing worse than packing just one pair and losing one glove!
