Gothenburg is the second largest city in Sweden offering a municipality of over 489,787 in population within the city center, and 510, 000 in population in the urban areas surrounding the city. You will find that Gothenburg has thirteen municipalities in their borders. Gothenburg also rates on the importance scale based on the university located there. You will find the University of Gothenburg is very important to the city and to the whole of Sweden. Gothenburg is also located on water such as the Gota Alv and the Kattegatt River that divides that actual city in half. The port of Gothenburg is also extremely important to the economics of the entire country as it is the largest among the Nordic Region.
Skara may be one of the smaller Sweden cities, but it is the oldest city that is still standing. You will find that Skara was founded in 988 A.D. History of Skara shows that it was the home for the regional assembly of the “Thing of all Geats.” You will also find that Skara became the home for the Bishop and religious center in the country for several centuries. You will find that the bishop's seat in Sweden, in that of Skara has been an unbroken succession of the Christian religion. In other words Skara has housed a bishop since 1050 A.D. when the seat was first established. You will find that the Skara Cathedral is one of the most popular tourist attractions of this city and dates back to farther than the 1200's. Skara also has history regarding Saint Olaf Monastery and the Dominican Order. Each city in Sweden is going to offer a rich history for any tourist.

Always remember to carry a map of Sweden when you visit, mark on it the whereabouts of your hotel and the full address and keep it with you when you travel. Mark down landmarks near the hotel if you plan to walk so that you can easily spot the direction of your residency for the time of your stay. |
