Stockholm Sweden - Urban Sophistication

Not everybody wants to experience large city attractions which are full or tourists which is exactly why we wrote this article. Stockholm Sweden is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe for many reasons; one of them being that although it is one of the countries largest tourist attractions, the city is not crammed with tourists all year round, though it is a great place to visit any time of year.

Stockholm, Sweden, is well known for being the most attractive European city of which its entire centre is built on water. Fourteen islands make up the city and its water that makes up at least one third of the city. It is because of this water and the residents of Sweden – who are hugely environmentally aware – that the city has the cleanest air of any city in Europe so, unlike some other major cities; you won't be overcome with fumes as soon as you get off the plane!

The scenery in Stockholm, Sweden's pride and joy is very well preserved and maintained. The city here is very mediaeval with its hidden alleyways surrounded by wonderful old, and new, buildings. Stockholm, Sweden's capital has completely varied scenery and whether you visit here to experience the nature parks, history museums or botanical gardens you cannot be disappointed. There's something here for everyone but it is mainly the young and single, as well as honeymooners, that visit this Romantic capital.

The city is an urban party city where the days are for sightseeing and relaxing and the nights come alive for partying. Once the office workers have left for the day, the city streets become packed with a wealth of different age groups who are looking for a good time after a hard days work. If you plan to tire yourself during the day then the sheer amount of events going on throughout the year should give you plenty to choose from, and if you choose to visit here in winter then after walking around viewing the sights all day, then Stockholm has Sweden's best food treasures for you to sample in all manner of pubs, restaurants and cafes. The internationally mixed culture here lets you experience something different in every venue.

If you are visiting Stockholm to shop, then you can expect the British pound (GBP) to convert into 12.90 Swedish Kronor (SEK). As for the rest of Sweden Stockholm isn't particularly expensive, the prices of shopping here for clothes and other items aren't as high as they once were thanks to the tourism, but you will find designer labels here and they're as trendy as the city itself.

Temperatures can be freezing in winter so you might like to remember to take thermals, but it is fantastic to strip off your hats and scarves after a tiring day at your affordable hotel. The bars and eateries are really welcoming when you visit and you might find that sitting by a fire in a cosy pub is just what you need – oh, and don't forget to try the food while you visit Sweden. Stockholm is just a fabulous and varied place to go whether it's an urban afternoon of travelling out and about, or a sophisticated evening dining in you are looking for, you will not return home disappointed.

Sweden History Tip #1

Always remember to carry a map of Sweden when you visit, mark on it the whereabouts of your hotel and the full address and keep it with you when you travel. Mark down landmarks near the hotel if you plan to walk so that you can easily spot the direction of your residency for the time of your stay.

Sweden History Tip #2

If you plan to travel to Northern Sweden to experience the Northern Lights and the Ice Hotel, pack accordingly and remember warm clothing, especially in winter months. Thermal underwear is highly recommended on top of hats, scarves and a couple of pairs of gloves - there's nothing worse than packing just one pair and losing one glove!
