Sweden History and Agriculture

Influences from foreign countries have always made a country what it is, like the Indian influences brought into the United Kingdom over the centuries. Sweden history is packed full of prominent influences beginning a long time back in the days of the glacial period when, from the South and East of the country, Northern Sweden was introduced to processes of hunting and gathering – fishing and killing meat to survive was a part of life.

Later on in the 18th Century, as people married off and families grew, families would live in barns around tiny villages which would often be centred around a church. Any land nearby to the villages would be sectioned off and farmed by the different groups that would be allocated those specific portions of land, each group having plenty of land to work. Although the amount of land was plenty, the production of that land was quite low (around 2% of the land was cultivated and farmed) which would soon increase as groups of people from other countries moved in. As the population grew, Sweden history tells use that land would continuously be sectioned off and split so that different families had their own plot so, as the population grew the production of food from farming increased substantially over the next few centuries.

In addition to the food consumables that come from the farming and agriculture in Sweden history, the country is also responsible for a large amount of forestry exports. The Scandinavian soft and hard wood is exported into countries like the UK and as far as America in the form of timber, paper and wood pulp – a massively important factor in the countries status in the world. Other countries continue to show huge interest in the ability of Sweden to produce high quality exports in the form of both forest products and food products, demand is always high and despite the increasing volume of harvesting that has been conducted in the country they continue to gain wood resources as well as caring for the environmental impact of the forestry industry and the agricultural industry.

In Sweden, history as we've mentioned, is told with prominent stories from the Middle Ages where the influences from people moving here from Germany and France brought different cultures and traditions into the country. Sweden history is also full of economical and political stories and even today this is evident when we read of the mixed cultures throughout the country. More recently, last century saw the United States bring lots to the country – clear through media of TV – and then in more recent of Sweden history, the 1990's saw the country joining the European Union - assisting it to be more stable and accessible by its neighbouring European countries and their residents.

Though Sweden history is still told with stories about the agricultural heritage, the weather continues makes it an ideal place to farm and organic farming is growing at a slow and steady pace (source:- www.organic-culture.net). This, of course, is helped by the populations' awareness of their environment and the clean living that they are happy to practise. The Ministry of Agriculture is responsible for long and short term goals within the industry and ensures that they achieve a food production and a commerce that both protects the animals, the land and the environment.
